Whole Wheat Cheddar Drop Biscuits

Whole grain: 1 3/4 serving

Meat/meat alternative: 1/4 oz

Ingredients

12 cups Flour, whole wheat 

4 1/2 cups Flour, all-purpose, enriched  

 3/4 cup Baking powder 

1/2 cup Sugar 

4 tsp Table salt  

 2 tbsp Onion powder 

2 tbsp Garlic powder  

1 qt 2 cups Cheddar cheese, reduced fat, shredded  

2 qt 2 cups Milk, skim 

2 cups Oil, olive or canola 

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400° F. 

  2. Combine the flours, baking powder, sugar, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder in a bowl and stir with a whisk to blend evenly. 

  3. Add the cheddar cheese to the dry ingredients and toss to distribute evenly. 

  4. Add the milk and canola oil to the flour-cheese mixture and mix just until evenly moistened. 

  5. Use a #16 scoop to portion the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheets. (See Recipe Note for optional topping.) Bake until golden brown on the bottom and baked through, 20 to 22 minutes. Cool on a rack before serving. 

Recipe Notes:

Topping for Pot Pies: 

Use as a topping for ratatouille to make a Ratatouille Pot Pie. 

Herb and Onion Topping 

If you wish, you can make an herb/onion/garlic topping to brush on the biscuits.

1/2 cup Parsley flakes, dry 

2 tbsp plus 2 tsp Onion powder 

2 tbsp plus 2 tsp Garlic powder 

Combine the ingredients and brush or drizzle over the biscuits before baking.
